Mark Slotkin & Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

I first met Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1976 when he came to an open house in Bel-Air on Stone Canyon a few doors down from the famous Bel-Air Hotel. Kareem owned a house a block away that was all done in the Art Nouveau style. Art Nouveau is his passion. He frequently visits Antiquarian Traders and is a repeat customer. Kareem’s last purchase was some bronze Majorelle hardware that he used for his home in Harlem. He is the epitome of the strong silent type and is very private. However, when asked to take this photo and autograph it, he was more than obliging. This picture was taken in 2008.
